At Backstop House we are committed to assisting you so your stay is a memorable & enjoyable one.
Frequently Asked Questions
The following are some of the questions frequently asked by our guests. We hope these may assist you in your upcoming visit to us.
Question: What do I have to bring with me?
Answer: Basically please bring anything that will make your stay comfortable and home like. We have all the linen and blankets that you may require during your stay, but some guests prefer to bring their favourite pillow or special blanket. Obviously you will need to bring all your own personal items such as toothpaste and the like as well as medications and other medical appliances you would use at home. Some people like to bring in their own photos and paraphernalia to personalize their room.
Question: What are the times for admission and discharge?
Answer:We do not have any specific times set in concrete but as a rule, if you could arrive after lunch on admission and leave prior to lunch on the day of departure this would assist us greatly. After departure the beds and rooms are washed and made available for the incoming person and this process does take some time.
Question: How much does it cost to stay at Backstop?
Answer:The present rate for staying at Backstop House is $80 per night. You may be able to receive assistance with this cost. Contact the coordinator to see if you’re eligible.
Question: What are the visiting hours?
Answer: Backstop House is not a hospital with set hours for visitors. All we ask is that the hours be reasonable and that no visitors behave in such a way as to disturb other guests.
Question: If I cancel my booking can I get my deposit back.
Answer: No. The reason we ask for a deposit is to ensure that guests do not book and then later cancel as this prevents other families from being able to do long term planning. The monies received from guests provide some of the extras around the house.
Question: What if I don't like the meal prepared?
Answer: The staff will do their best to include all guests in deciding what is for dinner and ensuring that all special dietary requirements are met. If you don't like the meal staff will provide a substitute.
Question: Do you provide cold beverages for guests?
Answer: Unfortunately no. Many guests purchase their own drinks and we are happy to keep them in a fridge so they are cold when required. There are shops nearby and arrangements can be made to purchase drinks while here.
Question: If I am not happy about something at Backstop House who do I talk to about it?
Answer: As a general rule problems are best sorted out informally between the guest and the other person at the time. If the guest is not content with this arrangement the coordinator is always available to resolve the situation. If this is unsatisfactory to the guest the coordinator will be pleased to call in a committee member to assist in the process.
